10,000 Things
From Louisville, Kentucky, The Pennies finally return after a several year hiatus to release the long-awaited follow up to their critically acclaimed debut "Come, We Go" (1999). The 10 songs run the gamut from lush, psychedelic space rock to film-noir swing while passing through the terrain in-between. The album is all the more impressive due to the fact that it was produced and recorded in singer/songwriter JEREMY PODGURSKY's home on a PRO TOOLS rig the band invested in. Co-produced by PODGURSKY and KEVIN COULTAS (RODAN, RACHELS, SONORA PINE, COME), the album's multiple layers and PODGURSKY'S kaleidoscopic orchestrations reflect a true labor of love (although most would consider two years of recording/mixing and a year of unsatisfactory mastering jobs to be a breech birth!). While the status of the band has been one of "indefinite hiatus", there are plans for a series of shows to celebrate this release. But the four year delay of release has proven 10,000 THINGS to be ahead of the curve. Before other Louisville bands were experimenting with rock and roll's boundaries in bigger arenas, THE PENNIES were doing so tucked away in the basement by their own standards. The result is a full-blown, cinematic collection of songs unlike any you have ever heard. From the synth swells of Track 1 to the spine-tingling string orchestra on TRACK 9, THE PENNIES cover more ground on one CD than most bands do in their whole lifespan.
